Mission Community House Post

The Mission Community House Post provides an ideal first glance at the visual culture of the First Nations communities upon whose land Mission is situated.

Mission Community House Post

The Mission Community House Post resides outside the Visitor Information Centre, making it the ideal place to stop for all your visitor needs, as well as for gaining your first insight into the First Nations communities of the city, who are the Stó:lō people. The Stó:lō people on whose land Mission is situated are the Matheqwí, Sema:th, Sq’éwlets, Qwó:ltl’el, Katzie, Kwantlen and Leq’á:mel First Nations.

This post is one of two that was carved as part of the "Joined Together in Spirit"  project that saw a post created for Mission and one for our Sister City in Oyama, Japan in 2007. Carvers Tom Patterson (Nuu Chan Nulth), Johnny Williams (Scowlitz), Pascal Pelletier (Metis), Roxane McCallum (Kamloopa Sewepemc), George Pennier (Chehalis), and Peter Wayne Gong (Squamish) have all contributed to the making of this house post.

The posts represent the relationship between the land and nature in the Fraser Valley, depicting the bear, salmon, beaver, eagle, sturgeon, and spindle whorl.
