10 Green Living Tips:

Remember we need everyone to do a little bit, to help make a big difference. Below are 10 simple and easy changes to live a “Greener Life.”

Easy Swaps

  • 1. Wash laundry in cold water
  • 2. Recycle and Compost – The City of Mission makes this easy with their curbside collection pick up
  • 3. Turn the thermostat down inside your home. Even just one degree makes a difference and put on some socks, grab a blanket or throw on a sweater to stay warm.
  • 4. Walk to a park, or to a nearby store for groceries instead of taking the car, especially with the weather warming up, it is a great excuse to get outside!

Food

  • 5. Grow your own vegetables, or if that is not something you can do where you live, ensure you check out the Mission City Farmer’s Market and help support local farmers in our area.
  • 6. Use a reusable water bottle to prevent yourself from buying a plastic bottle of water when out.
  • 7. Add a few meatless Mondays to the dinner rotation.

Shopping

  • 8. Buy secondhand whenever you can; you can score some great deals on clothing and household items – the thrill of thrifting is a real thing! We have some great thrift shops in Mission, so make sure to check them out!
  • 9. Make sure to donate any items you no longer wear or any household items/décor that you no longer use, to a local thrift shop and help keep items out of the landfill. There are plenty of places in Mission that will gladly accept your used items in good condition.
  • 10. Mission has textile recycling drop off for clothing and bedding that are not suitable for donation because they have holes or rips that cannot be fixed or are soiled or stained. You can drop items off at Archway Mission Recycling located at 7229 Mershon Street. View hours of operation here

So what are you waiting for, Come join MESS for a day of celebration, learning, and fun as we all come together to make a positive impact on our planet. See you there! To learn more about this event click HERE
