Musician John Welsh is a long-time resident of Mission and a regular at many of the music venues and events found in the community. His aptly named, John Welsh Band, brings an upbeat mix of Latin and reggae music, with a heavy Spanish influence, sure to get you up on the dance floor.
What do you love about Mission?
The town is compact and you can quickly get where you need to go, including to our incredible outdoors.
Where are your favorite places to visit?
Corona’s Mexican Restaurant
I love authentic Mexican food, and finding that right here in Mission is awesome. Not only is the food great, but they support live music. My recommendations include Taco’s Al Pastor and Bulldog Margaritas.
This is where the local arts and music community meet, in a very welcoming environment. The Sunday Night Open Mic sees a wealth of local musicians take to the stage; you are never sure what you will hear, but it’s always great.
Mission Folk Music Festival
This is my favorite event, offering music from all over the world in a beautiful location. It brings together the local community and visitors of all ages, offering a fun and safe atmosphere. I have played a lot of festivals, but there is something special about this one.
This is a cool, grassroots venue that is unique in the Fraser Valley, bringing in local and touring musicians and comedians in an intimate setting, with great sound and lighting.
I discovered this quite by accident; it’s a hidden waterfall just 20 minutes from the City. It is a blissful spot that takes you away from it all and gives you time to unwind and collect your thoughts.
Bee Thai Cuisine
One of my favorite lunch places, with a wide variety of tasty Thai food in the heart of Mission’s Downtown.
