The 79 Grind Trail - Stave West

The 79 Grind is a challenging trail that ascends into the forestry-rich mountains engulfing Stave West. The entire hike is 6.5km round trip and takes 1.5-2.5 hours to get to the top by following a steep incline that gains 610 meters in elevation. Once at the top you'll find a wooden platform on Rockwell Peak that overlooks the jaw-dropping view of Stave West and stunning Devils Lake. The 79 Grind is a strenuous and scenic workout that is rated difficult so ensure you are prepared with proper footwear and gear. The path is also very rugged and contains hazards like mud, roots and rocks so keep an eye out!

The trail head is located in the Stave West Recreation Area, starting on Florence Lake Service road 6.6km north of Dewdney Trunk road and just before the Seventy-Nine Creek bridge. The parking area is across the road from the trail and the path begins with a set of wooden stairs to climb up.
